Chickens!

OK, we took some (bad) pictures of our birds the other day. Sorry for not posting this sooner, but in my defense I have a teething 6 month old and it doesn't help our situation!

So, the chickens, what you really (don't) care about.

This is Husband's Sumatra Rooster. Isn't he pretty? He is also a little loud....hm. Turns out they don't just crow when the sun comes up. At least HE doesn't!

This is Husband's Red Jungle Fowl Rooster. Isn't he pretty? He's loud too. I'm sensing a trend here..... Over there in the corner is his woman....they aren't very friendly! But so pretty and their eggs are so good!

I'm working on getting a good shot of MY chicken, the Silky aka "fluffers". And when you finally do see her you will know why I named her that. She is the sweetest, most loving chicken. Very un-chicken like in every way possible. And the way she walks is hilarious! I love that bird! She's looking a little mangy at the moment.....so I'm waiting to take her picture. I'm sure there is a real term for chicken-mange that husband knows, but I don't. Whatever it is, her feathers are falling out and she looks a mess !

More to come! Our garden is starting to grow.....we planted a Loofa plant! Yeah, Loofahs! Like, exfoliate in the shower Luffa's! Hello??? Am I the only person who thought those grew in the ocean??? Am I totally dense here? Well, turns out you can grow them in your stinkin' backyard.
Blink. Blink. Blink.

We'll see I guess!

Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to our little part of the world known as "Chicky Mania!" We (we being myself and my husband) are happy you found us. We have started this blog to show how you can be a "Suburban Farmer" (is that a real phrase?) We do it and love it. Of course, we would love to have a sprawling acreage to call our own, but if you are like us and live in the city limits, why shouldn't you have some chickens and some fresh grown veggies like the farmers do?

We have all sorts of birds in our backyard and we love them. My husband got me started on this, I never would have though I'd love any part of "country life", but I have seen the light. Life moves a little slower it seems with "Chicky's" in the backyard.

Husband is working on a post about hatching your own set of "Chicky's", it's not as hard as it may seem, and he'll explain it all to you (with pictures!). I believe we are currently working on some Delaware hatchlings at the moment. I just can't wait for their eggs, they will be perfect for all of my baking needs.

Later in the week I will be posting about my current favorite chicken, the Silky. I have a blue silky named Fluffers, who is quite the character. You'd swear she was a sweet little lap dog, not a wild chicken. I love her.

More to come.......
